(GP Mendoza/CBC)Surrey police say a business was hit with bullets over the weekend after suspects fired shots from a sedan, but that their target was the occupants of another vehicle and not the building. “It appears at this time that the business was collateral damage,” said Surrey Police Service (SPS) Sgt. Tige Pollack. The shooting occurred just before 1 a.m. PT on Sunday at the intersection of King George Boulevard and 81st Avenue.”There were two groups of individuals and the suspect in this matter or suspects fired at another vehicle that had victims in it and some of the bullets struck the front of the business, but it doesn’t appear to be extortion-related at all,” said Pollock. He said no one at the business was injured. The force is seeking tips from the public to help them locate both the suspects and victims in the shooting, who Pollock said fled from the scene. The suspect vehicle is described as a white, newer model 4-door sedan.Anyone with information about or footage of the incident is asked to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 25-91820 (SP), or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.Surrey has been beset with an increase in extortion cases over the past year, where individuals or businesses in predominantly South Asian communities receive threatening demands for money by letter, phone call, text message or social media. There have been 65 reported extortion-related cases and 35 connected shootings in the city so far this year, according to police.
