Keith Gosse/The Telegram Photo by Keith Gosse /Keith Gosse/The TelegramArticle contentA 19-year-old accused of murdering a man in the east end of St. John’s last April has chosen to skip his preliminary hearing and go straight to arraignment.Ibrahim Hussein’s three-day preliminary inquiry had been scheduled to begin in provincial court Wednesday morning, Oct. 22, before the court heard he was waiving his right to the proceedings.A preliminary inquiry allows a judge to hear evidence from both sides of a serious case before determining whether there’s enough to move forward with a trial.Ibrahim Hussein, who is represented by lawyer Robert Hoskins, is expected to be arraigned in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador in the coming months. He has pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder for the shooting death of 33-year-old Gerald (Kyle) Hynes on April 8.Ibrahim Hussein’s brother, 23-year-old Hussein Hussein, has pleaded not guilty to charges of being an accessory to murder after the fact, as well as resisting a police officer. They have been released from custody with future court dates.Article contentHynes, 33, was shot outside a Watson Street home around 9 p.m. on April 8. After taking a person of interest into custody from a residence in the area, RNC officers released him without charge and issued a public appeal for Ibrahim Hussein’s whereabouts. At the time, police said he was armed and dangerous and advised people not to approach him.RNC and RCMP officers arrested Ibrahim and Hussein at the ferry terminal in Port-aux-Basques the morning of April 10. Ibrahim was located in the trunk of a vehicle that Hussein was driving.At the time, Ibrahim was on bail with charges of assault causing bodily harm, two counts of uttering threats, along with charges of breaching a court order and failing to appear in court.
