A man faces a slew of charges after at least three women working in the sex trade were sexually assaulted since April, police say.The Winnipeg police investigation began in April, after a sex-trade worker reported being sexually assaulted by a man with a weapon in the Polo Park area on April 25, police said in a news release on Thursday.The woman was treated in hospital, but a suspect was not identified at that time.Another sex-trade worker reported that a man seriously sexually assaulted and stole her cellphone at knifepoint in the Central Park area on May 10, police said.The woman was also treated in hospital. The investigation into her assault led police to identify a suspect.On Oct. 4, a third sex-trade worker reported being sexually assaulted by a man in the St. James neighbourhood.The man set up each meeting with the women before the assaults and fled after, police said.A 19-year-old was arrested last week in connection with the April and May assaults. After further investigation, he was also arrested for sexual assault in connection with the Oct. 4 attack, police said.He’s charged with two counts of sexual assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, theft under $5,000, assault, two counts of possessing a firearm part or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, and overcoming resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle another person.Police ask that anyone who may have been victim to a similar assault contact the counter exploitation unit at 204-986-3464, by email or by phoning 911.More from CBC Manitoba:If you’re in immediate danger or fear for your safety or that of others around you, please call 911.
