(Jeorge Sadi/CBC)Residents in Waverley, N.S., were briefly urged to shelter in place Monday morning due to what police said was a dangerous man with a firearm in a home.A statement from RCMP said officers responded to a report of a man with a weapon barricaded inside a residence on Waverley Road shortly before 7 a.m. Nobody else was in the home.Around 8:30 a.m., an emergency alert was issued for people living near the 2000 block of the road. Residents were told to seek immediate shelter or stay inside and lock their doors and windows. Streets were also closed.The Mounties said officers, dog services, the RCMP emergency response team and a crisis negotiator went to the scene. The suspect was taken into custody not long after the alert was issued. (Jeorge Sadi/CBC)An alert issued shortly after 9 a.m. said the man had been taken into custody and there was no longer a risk to the public.Later that morning, officers could be seen removing items — including a rifle — from 2070 Waverley Rd.The RCMP said neighbours may have heard loud noises during the police operation, but no shots were fired.The investigation is ongoing.MORE TOP STORIES
