(Ken Tannenbaum/Shuttershock)Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating after a mom reported a man, later found to be an off-duty RCMP officer, chased and handcuffed a girl who was playing ding-dong ditch in Brandon earlier this month.Brandon police were called to a home in Hawthorn Crescent on Oct. 19, where a woman reported her handcuffed daughter was dropped off by a man later identified as an off-duty RCMP officer, said a news release from the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba.The incident happened after five youths rang doorbells at people’s homes and ran away, a game also known as knock-knock ginger. A man at one of the homes got in his vehicle, chased the group and caught one of the youth, whom he took home in handcuffs, the watchdog said. On Oct. 21, Brandon police reported the incident to the IIU, which is responsible for investigating serious incidents involving police officers in Manitoba, including those off-duty. The watchdog determined it is in the public interest to investigate the incident. Anyone who witnessed the arrest or has video of it is asked to contact the IIU at 1-844-667-6060.
