Long ago, the world was cloaked in complete darkness. The sun, the moon, and the stars were hidden inside secret boxes, kept by a selfish chief who refused to share them.
Raven — a clever, mischievous spirit — could not bear the darkness any longer. Determined to bring light to the world, Raven devised a plan.
He transformed into a speck of dust and slipped into the chief’s house, where he was reborn as the chief’s grandchild. As he grew, Raven cried and begged to play with the mysterious boxes. Out of love, the chief eventually gave in.
The moment the boxes were opened, Raven shape-shifted back to his true form, grabbed the sun, moon, and stars in his beak, and soared into the sky — releasing light into the world.
Though his feathers were forever blackened by smoke, Raven became the bringer of life, light, and hope.
