(Submitted/Peter Smith)Manitoba Progressive Conservatives elected a new party president and unveiled a new logo at a convention held this weekend in Winnipeg.Peter Smith, a corporate controller by profession, was selected by party members Saturday to succeed outgoing president Brent Pooles, the party confirmed.Smith, who served as president of the federal Conservative electoral district association for Winnipeg South Centre, effectively strengthens the provincial party’s ties with the national party.He assumes the reins of the party after a difficult period that saw former premier Brian Pallister resign in 2021, the race to replace him wind up before the courts and the party’s loss of power to the NDP in 2023.Fort Whyte MLA Obby Khan, who won a narrow leadership race of his own to become the party’s new leader in April, said in a speech Friday the Progressive Conservatives are now united.Khan also unveiled a new Manitoba PC logo that places the the first initial inside the second.
