The statement was upgraded to a warning around 6 a.m. on Sunday around Ottawa-Gatineau, Smiths Falls and Belleville.In places where the warning is in effect, there could be between 10 and 20 cm of snow, with snowfall rates reaching up to 5 cm an hour.West of the warning — in the Renfrew, Pembroke and Bancroft area — the special weather statement is still in place, warning of up to 15 cm of snow. As of 11 a.m., the communities along the St. Lawrence River stretching down to Kingston were also under a freezing rain warning. There could be up to 10 cm of snow with freezing rain and ice pellets. While flakes were spotted around Bancroft last week, Ottawa’s international airport weather station hasn’t measured snow since mid-April.Treacherous highway conditions SundayEnvironment Canada urged drivers to be prepared for slippery roads and adjust their plans and driving techniques accordingly.In a Sunday social media post, Ontario Provincial Police said their officers responded to more than 120 collisions across eastern Ontario between noon and 4 p.m.None of the collisions were fatal, OPP said, and any injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening.Several accidents were also reported on Highway 50 in western Quebec Sunday, including one that involved seven vehicles near Masson-Angers.Sunday’s snowfall also delayed the start of the Canadian Premier League final at TD Place Stadium between Atlético Ottawa and Cavalry FC.Traffic was brought to a standstill on Highway 50 in eastern Gatineau, Que., on Sunday afternoon after a multi-vehicle crash in snowy conditions.
