In a release Monday, Halifax RCMP say the man from Myers Point, who did not reside in the home, is now facing a charge of unauthorized possession of a firearm. On Oct. 27, Waverley residents were briefly urged to shelter in place due to what police said was a dangerous man with a firearm in a home.A statement from RCMP at the time said officers responded before 7 a.m. to a report of a man with a weapon barricaded inside a residence on Waverley Road. Nobody else was in the home.Around 8:30 a.m., an emergency alert was issued for people living near the 2000 block of the road. Residents were told to seek immediate shelter or stay inside and lock their doors and windows. Streets were also closed.The Mounties said officers, dog services, the RCMP emergency response team and a crisis negotiator went to the scene.An alert issued shortly after 9 a.m. said the man had been taken into custody and there was no longer a risk to the public.Later that morning, officers could be seen removing items — including a rifle — from 2070 Waverley Road.The RCMP said neighbours may have heard loud noises during the police operation, but no shots were fired.The man has been released on conditions and will appear in provincial court in Dartmouth at a later date.
