He was then charged again with theft under $5,000 at Best Buy on Grand Lake Road on April 8 and with stealing clothing from Walmart in North Sydney on April 9.Article contentArticle contentAfter a stay in custody, MacLean was released on number of conditions on May 2 that included a court order forbidding him from being in any stores or businesses except for the North Sydney pharmacy where he was receiving methadone maintenance treatment.Article contentMacLean was not charged with any crimes in May, June or July, but from Aug. 16 until Oct. 2 he was arrested 10 times for theft under $5,000 at NSLC stores in Sydney Mines, Sydney River and Sydney.Article contentDuring a Nov. 12 appearance in Sydney provincial court, MacLean pleaded guilty to 14 counts of theft under $5,000 and 18 counts of breaching court-order release conditions.Article contentHe was sentenced on Nov. 20 to a total of 33 months in jail, which includes a 33-month concurrent sentence for the court violations.Article contentHe was also ordered to pay more than $7,300 in restitution — $1,299.99 to Best Buy, $4,792.30 to the NSLC in Sydney Mines, and $1,215 to the NSLC in Sydney River.Article content
