Kimmirut man charged with attempted murder, strangulation

Published 11:12 am Wednesday, November 26, 2025 A 23-year-old Kimmirut man has been charged with attempted murder, strangulation, firing a gun, possession of a gun to commit a crime and careless storage of a gun. “On Nov. 22, 2025, at approximately 11:18 p.m, the Kimmirut RCMP received a report that a male had shot at an occupied vehicle,” Kimmirut RCMP stated in a Nov. 26 news release. Police tracked the man down at a residence and negotiated with him until he surrendered. Brandon Atsiaq is in custody and has a court hearing on Nov. 26. One victim received injuries from strangulation, but there were no reported injuries from the shooting, Sgt. George Henrie of the Nunavut RCMP said. The victim and the accused were known to each other, Sgt. Henrie said.
