Anne Collegiate. The victim is sitting on a planter on school property, not engaging with the group, when a student pulled him to the ground, appearing to kick him in the ribs and stomp on his head.Chief Marc Robichaud of the Ste. Anne Police Service confirmed Thursday to CBC that the attackers were high school students, and that the injured student had been taken to hospital by ambulance in the town about 45 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg. He has since been released from hospital with minor injuries. Robichaud did not give the ages of the youths.A group of students were watching the confrontation, several recording it on their phones.A letter sent to parents by principal Yvan St. Vincent said a school assembly was held on Wednesday.“During this incident, one student harmed another student, and several students nearby did not take steps to get help. This situation was troubling, and we felt it was important to speak directly with all students …,” the letter reads in part.The letter goes on to say the assembly emphasized getting adult help when someone is unsafe.“Standing by, filming or encouraging conflict is not OK,” the letter continues, adding that the school is addressing the incident openly to ensure moving forward in a positive way. St. Vincent forwarded CBC’s questions to Seine River School Division superintendent Colin Campbell.Campbell responded that he was in meetings all day and was unavailable for an interview, but gave an emailed statement:“We are aware of a serious incident that occurred outside Ste. Anne Collegiate earlier this week. Ste. Anne Police Service is currently involved, and we are co-operating fully.“As this is a police matter, and out of respect for the students and families involved, we are unable to share further details at this time.“The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority, and we will continue to follow established protocols and support those affected,” the letter concludes.WATCH | Ste.
