The donation includes the full working archives of the press from inception to present day.Article contentArticle contentArticle content“Few small presses with as rich a history as Gaspereau have their archives fully preserved under one roof,” said Jennifer Richard, the dean of Libraries at Acadia University, in a news release.Article content“Having both the archive and the full catalogue of books opens doors to research into the craft of book arts, the evolution of printing, design, typography, and publishing practices, not only in Canada but in the broader context of fine press traditions,” Richard added.Article contentCatherine Fancy, the archives co-ordinator at Acadia, said it was “a remarkable collection—essentially the living history of one of Canada’s most influential small presses.”Article content Andrew Steeves, co-founder of the Gaspereau Press, stands inside the Acadia University Archives. The award-winning publishing house founders recently donated the complete collection and archive of Gaspereau Press.Article contentThe founders of the Gaspereau Press were once students at Acadia.Article content“Gaspereau has shaped how we think about the craft of publishing, from design and typography to the way books are made and read. To bring that creative legacy home to Acadia, where both founders were students, is a real privilege,” Fancy said.Article contentGaspereau’s books have earned multiple Alcuin Society Awards for Excellence in Book Design and represented Canada internationally in Germany. Its literary successes include The Sentimentalists by Johanna Skibsrud, winner of the Scotiabank Giller Prize (2010), Execution Poems by George Elliott Clarke, winner of the Governor General’s Award for Poetry (2001), and Shadow Blight by Annick MacAskill, winner of the Governor General’s Award for Poetry (2022).Article content
