That included his 640th career regular-season NHL goal, moving him past Dave Andreychuk into 15th place on the all-time goal list, and his 109th multi-point game, moving past Jarome Iginla into 20th overall.Article contentArticle contentWith 1,714 career points, Crosby is within range of becoming only the fifth player in NHL history to reach 1,800 points, a milestone he could reach next season. A more immediately achievable one is becoming the eighth player in history to record 1,100 assists. He’s currently sitting at 1,074 and could reach 1,100 in January.Article contentMeanwhile, in Colorado, the Avalanche remains the NHL’s dominant club through the first two months of this season. Entering December, they are perched atop the overall standings with a record of 18-1-6 (42 points)Article contentLeading the way is Nathan MacKinnon. The Halifax star continues his quest for the Art Ross Trophy as the league’s points leader, sitting in first place with 44 points. Known for his play-making skills, the 29-year-old centre is tied for the league lead in goals with 20, raising the possibility that he could win the Maurice Richard Trophy as the leading goal scorer by season’s end.Article contentArticle contentIf MacKinnon maintains his torrid scoring pace, he would become the third player in league history to win both trophies, joining Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals (2008) and Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers (2023).Article content Colorado Avalanche centre Nathan MacKinnon celebrates a scoring play with teammate Valeri Nichuskin during a Nov. 9, 2025, NHL game against the Vancouver Canucks. Photo by Colorado Avalanche /ContributedArticle contentTurning to the Florida Panthers, eyebrows were raised last summer when they re-signed 37-year-old Brad Marchand for a four-year contract extension. He played a significant role in their march to the 2025 Stanley Cup, but the decline in his regular-season production was concerning.Article contentSo far, that contract has become a worthwhile investment. While the Panthers are struggling, they’re getting their money’s worth out of Marchand. From Halifax, Marchand sits atop their scoring leaders with 15 goals and 27 points in 23 games as of Dec. 1, putting him on track for over 40 goals and 85 points.Article contentIt remains to be seen if Marchand can maintain that pace over the rest of the season. Nevertheless, he’s silenced his critics by proving he still has plenty of quality hockey left to give.
