The Yukon RCMP has made an arrest in the death of a First Nations woman who died earlier this year in a rural community. Police say Ryan Laverdue, 50, was arrested on Dec. 3. He’s facing several charges including manslaughter in the death of Skye Dick, 26. According to a news release, police in the community of Ross River were called to a residence on April 10 where they found Dick dead. An earlier release said Dick had sustained injuries reportedly from an incident involving a motor vehicle. The Yukon Coroners Service confirmed in an email to APTN News at the time that Dick was a member of a First Nation in the territory. Laverdue faces other charges including failing to remain at the scene of an accident, failing to provide the necessities of life and criminal negligence causing death. He’s scheduled to appear in court in Watson Lake on Thursday. Continue Reading
