In the last provincial election in 2023, the PCs won District 2 by more than 1,600 votes, while the Liberals placed third.“My intention is I’m staying on as leader, coming off a successful leadership run just a short two months ago,” Mitchell said. “We’re on the move, and we have momentum, and we’re not letting tonight stop any of that. We will continue working hard, and we will build for the next general election and we will be hot on [the PC Party’s] heels.” Green Party candidate Eddie Childs came in third with 200 votes, while the NDP’s Kevin Trainor was fourth with 40.Voter turnout in the district was just over 54 per cent, with a total of 2,104 votes cast. There were 3,893 eligible voters in the district.The seat was left vacant after the resignation of former provincial housing minister Steven Myers in October.The byelection results don’t change the balance of power in the province.Premier Rob Lantz’s PCs have a majority in the 27-seat legislative assembly with 20 seats following Curran’s victory.
