The person had no ID, the anonymous poster said.Article contentOthers recounted similar experiences and described the door-knockers as being aggressive in their pitch to check the attic.Article contentOne post said the person at the door had a binder and identified themselves.Article contentPolice were called by some posters about their interactions.Article contentRCMP had no information Wednesday.Article contentIn June, police in Fredericton issued a scam alert about similar circumstances. The force said in a Facebook post that it had received reports of what it termed “a new scam targeting homeowners in our area.”Article contentIt said people were going door to door offering free attic inspections. Once inside, they claimed to find issues like mold or faulty insulation and showed homeowners photos of an attic as “proof.” They then called a supervisor who happened to be nearby and homeowners were pressured to sign up for costly repairs and asked for a cheque up front.Article contentPolice said in their notice that homeowners can protect themselves by:Article contentNever allowing unsolicited contractors into your home.Not succumbing to pressure to make on-the-spot decisions or payments.Always asking for credentials and verifying with the company directly.Reporting suspicious activity to police immediately.Article content
