Rankin Inlet man faces manslaughter charge

Published 10:29 am Thursday, December 11, 2025 A sudden death on April 30 in a home on Rankin Inlet’s Inukshuk Avenue resulted in police determining the cause was suspicious and one man subsequently being charged with manslaughter. “The Nunavut RCMP’s Major Crime Unit took over the investigation, with the assistance of the Rankin Inlet RCMP, and were able to determine the death was suspicious and that criminality was suspected,” police stated on Dec. 11. On Dec. 10, the Major Crime Unit charged 54-year-old Jay Camphaug with manslaughter. Camphaug is in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 15. Tony Van Eindhoven, 55, was the victim.
