Photo by ContributedName: Joel Hirtle.Party: Conservative Party of Canada.Resides in: Coldbrook.Age: 40.Occupation: Tire builder.Top local issue: Kings-Hants is a diverse riding with different priorities in every corner. In Kings, it’s affordable housing and the pressure on rural services. In West Hants, it’s completing the stalled Windsor highway and keeping the lake. In East Hants, it’s infrastructure and fast-paced growth. We need common sense leadership in Ottawa that actually delivers solutions to these local issues. What’s one thing you’d want to accomplish in your term as MP? I want to make sure the decisions we make in Ottawa allow our young people, today and not yet born, to build their future right here in Kings-Hants. That means good-paying jobs, homes they can afford, and strong, safe communities where families stay connected and opportunities last for generations to come.Article contentWhat’s one thing people might not know about you: I wore steel toe boots to most of the meetings I attended in my previous elected role – right up until I finally picked up a pair of decent dress shoes last year. They were good boots, so nobody noticed, but I wore them to stay grounded in my roots and to remember where I come from. I still carry a token with me to stay connected – it’s just not my boots anymore. Photo by ContributedName: Kody Blois.Party: Liberal Party of Canada.Resides in: Lantz.Age: 34.Occupation: Member of Parliament for Kings-Hants since 2019.Top local issue: The top local issue for me is growing our rural economy. We can and will do this by continuing to strengthen our small businesses, creating and maintaining local jobs, building more homes, and supporting our seniors. Our thriving agriculture sector must be protected and promoted on the national stage. What’s one thing you’d want to accomplish in your term as MP? If given the honour to represent Kings-Hants for another term, one thing I want to accomplish is securing more federal infrastructure dollars for the riding. Particularly, I want to ensure the proposed renewed Regional Sport Complex for Kings County becomes a reality. What’s one thing people might not know about you: One thing people might not know about me is that I’m the son of a truck driver and an administrative assistant who grew up in Belnan, and currently live in Lantz – with my beautiful wife Kim, and our Bernese mountain dog, Louis.Article content Paul Doerr is the NDP candidate in Kings-Hants during the federal election. Photo by Contributed /ContributedName: Paul Doerr.Party: NDP.Resides in: Wolfville.Age: 68.Occupation: History professor at Acadia University.Top local issue: The key issues facing our communities in Kings-Hants are shared by many across the country: access to health care, affordability, rising grocery prices, housing, and protecting our environment. The NDP is committed to addressing these challenges with policies that support families, including a national dental care plan and pharmacare. What’s one thing you’d want to accomplish in your term as MP? I would like to see a Kings-Hants riding where every family has access to a doctor, can afford to put food on the table and live in safe and affordable housing. What’s one thing people might not know about you: I am an enthusiastic collector of antique maps. Photo by ContributedName: Alex Cargill.Party: People’s Party of Canada (PPC).Resides in: Ellershouse.Age: 44.Occupation: Audio-visuals technician.Top local issue: Cost of living is a major issue for most Canadians. It doesn’t seem that Ottawa is in touch with our concerns as we feed money into causes (and bureaucracy) that only deepen our crisis. Add to that a futile trade war with America and it’s clear a dramatic change is required.Article contentWhat’s one thing you’d want to accomplish in your term as MP? An immigration moratorium. There are many issues facing Canadians and all are being exacerbated by reckless immigration policy and no party but PPC will face it head on.What’s one thing people might not know about you: I’m just like them, I don’t trust politicians after the endless calamities of the last 10 years. I don’t wish to be a politician – duty, not ambition, drives me. Someone has to oppose the tone-deaf decadence of these career politicians.Looking backThe following is a list of the members of Parliament who have represented Kings-Hants since 1965.
