NTI is a billion dollar organization: new CEO

Published 5:46 pm Monday, October 26, 2026 By William Koblensky Varela Local Journalism Initiative Northern News Service Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) is managing $1.35 billion, according to its new CEO, Navarana Beveridge. Beveridge announced the latest figure at NTI’s annual general meeting in Kugluktuk on Oct. 21. ‘We can now say that NTI is a billion-dollar organization,” she said. “I started with Inuit organizations over 20 years ago, and I had not imagined to be able to say that today. But I do think that there’s a need to change how we work. I think we’re now less advocacy and more results-oriented in our approach.” The money is held across three accounts: Makigiaqta Inuit Training Corporation, a resource revenue trust from mining royalties, and one just labelled ‘NTI.’ Nunavut’s largest Inuit organization can work alongside governments in a peer relationship with accounts this large, according to Beveridge. “We are no longer just asking for things from organizations, from government. We are now partners. We are now an organization with the ability to make change for the better in the communities,” she said. Over the past year, NTI has spent $4 million to assist the Government of Nunavut in a tuberculosis response in Arviat, $1 million to help with food security for 13 tuberculosis patients in Arviat, $3.8 million towards Inuktut initiatives and $1.3 million on midwifery and maternal child health projects. Having started her position as CEO on Oct. 13, Beveridge said she’ll be reviewing NTI’s departments to ensure they have the appropriate number of staff, alongside President Gloria Uluqsi and the elected board of directors. “Following that review, possibly some change of management, just to make sure that we have the capacity,” said Beveridge.
