(Elections Canada)The former Glengarry-Prescott-Russell has a bit more of Ottawa, a lot less of Glengarry County and is one of the very few local ridings without an MP running for re-election.North Glengarry moves to Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry under the regular independent boundary review that followed the 2021 census.In its northwestern corner, Prescott-Russell-Cumberland absorbs more of the former township and current Ottawa community of Cumberland, including communities south of the Prescott-Russell trail and people living east of Cardinal Creek.That expansion moves voters over from Carleton and Orléans.Check with Elections Canada to confirm your riding.The only riding in Ontario that’s majority francophone, Prescott-Russell-Cumberland runs from rural east Ottawa to the Quebec border.It has mostly been Liberal, but went Conservative under Pierre Lemieux in the Stephen Harper years.Liberal Francis Drouin said last summer he was losing his passion for politics and would not run in 2025.WATCH | Checking on the race in Prescott-Russell-Cumberland:Candidates in a new riding just east of Ottawa working to make their election promises knownPrescott-Russell-Cumberland is one of the few local ridings that doesn’t have an incumbent. A bilingual debate was held over the weekend where candidates laid out their priorities. Polls are open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on election day on Monday, April 28. Elections Canada has more information on voting options.Here are the candidates.Ryder Finlay, NDPThe party hasn’t shared a biography for this candidate. Finlay was a Carleton University student working in IT when she ran for the NDP in the area provincially earlier this year.Giovanna Mingarelli, LiberalMingarelli has co-founded consulting companies and has spoken before Parliament about young women in politics.Deborah Perrier, People’s PartyPerrier lives around Plantagenet and worked as a nurse for about 30 years. She now works for the federal government.Thaila Riden, GreenRiden is an environmental activist, including being director of the Vankleek Hill Nature Society. He ran provincially for the Greens in the last two campaigns.Julie Séguin, ConservativeSéguin is a town councillor in Hawkesbury. She has worked for members of parliament and as a legal assistant and has helped organize campaigns for lower-income people in the area.Jason St. Louis, IndependentSt-Louis, from Russell, is a paralegal and driving instructor.
