(Dan Zakreski/CBC)Shoe prints found on Landon Waddell’s body match the shoes worn by the man charged in his death, says the police officer who analyzed the markings.Sgt. Matthew Maloney testified Tuesday in Saskatoon at the trial for Timothy Smith, who’s charged with manslaughter. Waddell died on Nov. 17, 2024, after he and Smith were in a fight in Waddell’s home on 26th Street West, where they had been hanging out and drinking. On Monday, the only other person in the house that night testified he saw Smith, 46, punch Waddell, 37, in the head, then make a kicking or stomping motion as Waddell fell down backwards and maybe hit his head on a coffee table. The injuries on Waddell’s body, however, don’t match up with him falling down backwards, court heard on Tuesday. Maloney testified Waddell had a “large cut” on his right eye, and blood found on the corner of the coffee table was Waddell’s blood.Maloney also analyzed markings on Waddell’s chest and testified they matched Smith’s shoe prints, showing “two distinctive strikes” by Smith’s left shoe. The trial in front of Judge Inez Cardinal in Saskatoon provincial court is scheduled to continue on Wednesday with testimony from the pathologist who performed the autopsy on Waddell’s body. That is expected to conclude the Crown’s case.
