(Wachiwit/Shutterstock)Three people are facing theft charges after an AirTag and a tablet’s tracking features led Winnipeg police to a stolen iPad and backpack earlier this week.Around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, officers patrolling in the 500 block of Waterfront Drive — between Fort Douglas Park and the Disraeli Freeway, in the Point Douglas area — were alerted to a vehicle break-in nearby.A backpack with an iPad inside had been stolen from the parked vehicle, which had been rented by out of town visitors, after its back window was smashed, police said in a Saturday news release.Officers were able to track the iPad’s location to a nearby encampment, where a man and a woman were found with it and arrested, police said.An AirTag tracking device attached to the backpack helped police track it to the area of Vaughan Street and Portage Avenue, near Portage Place mall, where a man was seen wearing the backpack, according to the release. He was also arrested.A 34-year-old woman, a 39-year-old man and a 42-year-old man have each been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.All three were released on appearance notices, police said.
