(Justin Tang/The Canadian Press)CBC News projects the renamed eastern Ontario riding of Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke has re-elected Conservative Cheryl Gallant. One of only two local ridings that’s kept its borders through a redistribution, the former Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke does have a new name. The riding’s residents voted Liberal until Cheryl Gallant swung it for the Canadian Alliance in 2000. She has held it since. The now nine-time election winner previously helped run a small family business and worked in economic development in Pembroke. The regular independent boundary review that followed the 2021 census concluded it was better to recognize the Algonquin Anishinābe history in the area than the small part of Nipissing District it holds. It’s otherwise made up of Renfrew County and includes Garrison Petawawa and Pikwàkanagàn.Seven candidates ran this time. Liberal Cyndi Mills came second after a third-place finish for the party in 2021.Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke’s boundaries are unchanged from previous federal elections, a rarity for the region in 2025.
