(CEBLeague/X.com)A new basketball court in Winnipeg’s North Kildonan area is poised to bear the name of late homegrown baller Chad Posthumus.City council’s East Kildonan-Transcona community committee voted on Tuesday to name new courts at Gateway Recreation Centre the Chad Posthumus Memorial Court.Posthumus was the first player signed by the Winnipeg Sea Bears and served as the team’s captain.Posthumus also played for other teams in Canada as well as clubs in Japan and Argentina throughout a 10-year professional career. As well, he served on the Canadian men’s national basketball team, among other honours.He played amateur ball for River East Collegiate and colleges in the U.S. and Canada.He died in November 2024, after he suffered a brain aneurysm.”Chad Posthumus’ sudden passing in November 2024 was a tremendous loss to his family, teammates, community, and the wider Canadian basketball family,” read the council motion authored by North Kildonan Coun. Jeff Browaty.The motion still faces approval from council as a whole but is expected to pass.
