(Kevin Sousa-Imagn Images/Reuters)In Game 3, the Dodgers two-way star doubled and homered off of Scherzer.Today, he began the game by lacing a single to right-centre field. But Scherzer retired the next three in order to shut down any threat. A solid start for the 41-year-old veteran, who’s been in this exact spot before. Still, it’s not too early to question if that will be his only matchup against Ohtani.12 minutes agoTop 1: Jays escape unscathed.John RietiVladdy makes an incredible diving stop to steal a hit from Will Smith and Scherzer settles in to strand Ohtani at third base.Phewf.26 minutes agoAbout that stuck ball…Mark GollomSome fans have questioned the umpire’s “dead ball” call after Addison Barger hit a ball that lodged itself between the outfield wall and the turf (They argue that had the umpire not made that call, the Jays would have been in a much stronger position to win Game 6).Yet a lot of fans at Rogers Centre felt the umpire made the right decision and it was just a bad break for the Jays.“It’s the correct call. It’s 100 per cent the correct call,” said Lorne Yuffe. “I’ve played baseball for years and I know the rules.”“Unfortunately that’s the way the cookie crumbles.”Ben Sherman also agreed with the call, saying it was disappointing but a rule is a rule.“I think it was the right call,” he said. “It’s unbelievable how those types of things that you’ve never seen before happen in that moment.”November 133 minutes agoExperienced JaysMyles DichterToronto Blue Jays right-fielder George Springer takes the field before Game 7 of the World Series. Now, he’s teammates with Scherzer — and once again, he’ll lead off while Scherzer starts a World Series Game 7.This is actually Springer’s third winner-takes-championship game, having also played in Game 7 of the 2017 World Series against the Dodgers. We’ll find out soon if that big-game experience pays off.34 minutes agoOhtani vs. Scherzer: What say the fansMark GollomJays fan Matt Black, with his daughter Ava, weighed in on tonight’s starting pitchers. (Mark Gollom/CBC)At Rogers Centre, Jays fans weighed in on tonight’s starting pitching matchup: Jays veteran Max Scherzer versus two-way Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani.“I’m not scared of Ohtani,” said Andrae Anglin. “Max at this stage [you] don’t know if he’ll be on or off. He knows how big this game is. I think he’s going to give it all that he has.”Rob Convery said he thinks Scherzer has the advantage because he’s pitched in this kind of situation before (Scherzer started Game 7 of the 2019 World Series). As for Ohtani, Convery thinks George Springer “is going to light up Ohtani on his first pitch.”J.J Anderson said he believes the Jays hitters will be able to get to Ohtani, although he does have some concerns about Scherzer because of where he is in his career.“But if he’s like he’s been for most of the playoffs, I’m pretty sure it will be a fun matchup.”As for fan Matt Black, he summed up the matchup succinctly: “I love Scherzer. Mad Max!”39 minutes agoToronto wants the World SeriesJohn RietiToronto Blue Jays fans rush to gain a vantage point as gates open at the Rogers Centre ahead of Game 7. Jays logos are everywhere downtown right now and fans have flooded the core. The Leafs’ and Raptors’ seasons have started, but make no mistake, it’s a baseball city right now. 40 minutes agoFirst roar of the nightMyles DichterScherzer came trotting out to the bullpen, looking focused as ever. And all of a sudden — still over a half-hour from first pitch — this place got loud. The 41-year-old didn’t acknowledge the crowd. He simply placed his glove on the field, and began warming up for the biggest game of the season.Calling Mad Max “locked in” is an understatement. 😳 pic.twitter.com/9LvoemG0w3—PitchingNinja41 minutes agoAll eyes on BargerMyles DichterThe Blue Jays right-fielder has become a main character of this World Series, from his pinch-hit grand slam in Game 1 to his lodged ball and base-running blunder last night. Thanks to his strong .467 batting average this series, Schneider bumped him to fifth in the batting order while moving Daulton Varsho to seventh. Will the moment come to him again?
