(Gilbert Rowan/Radio-Canada)A tarp covered a body found just outside a schoolyard in Winnipeg’s St. Boniface neighbourhood as students arrived for classes Tuesday morning.A police spokesperson told CBC News in an email that the death “doesn’t appear criminal in nature,” and there is no threat to community safety. No other information was released by police about the body, which was on a boulevard alongside the fence next to the grassy field at Henri-Bergeron School.Several police officers and vehicles were at the scene and yellow police tape surrounded the area where there was a white tarp.In a letter sent to parents of students at the school, principal Patrice Chartrand said “police have confirmed there is a deceased individual at the scene who has been respectfully covered.”Students being dropped off in the morning were immediately brought into the school rather than being allowed to stay outside until the bell. They will be kept away from the area until it is clear, the letter from Chartrand said. “Students may have questions or want to talk about what they saw or heard. I am sharing this information so that everyone in our community receives accurate information. Please be assured that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority,” the letter says.In-school administrators and other staff will be available to give support to students who require it.”You will receive followup contact from a staff member if your child requests support,” Chartrand wrote.More news from CBC Manitoba:
