Cape Breton Creative Awards celebrate art, culture, heritage

Barbara Stetter presented the youth Creative Arts Award to Callie Doyle, a Riverview High School who has performed in many musicals, during the ceremony on Nov. 6.  It was the second year the musical director presented the Barbara E. Stetter Youth Award to a young leader who shows promise in theatre. Along with performing, Doyle was most recently assistant stage manager for the Savoy Theatre’s production of Come From Away. Stetter Youth Award – Callie Doyle, Riverview High School: Along with performing in many shows, Doyle recently worked as assistant stage manager for the Savoy Theatre’s production of Come from Away. She has also mentored younger students and is passionate about the arts.Sons of Membertou Educator Award – Heritage African Drummers, Sydney and Margie Beaton, Mabou: The Heritage African Drummers are led by Peter Oyedijo and teach drumming, cultural respect and confidence. Margie Beaton is a lifelong champion of Gaelic culture, was also recognized for her leadership in education and heritage preservation through her work with the Mabou Gaelic & Historical Society and An Drochaid Museum.Article content
