Specially designed Teal to Heal T-shirts will be provided to registrants. Photo by IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POST FILEThe fund was created in 2022 by Dena Edwards Wadden, a Sydney River resident who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at 33 years old.Since its launch, Teal to Heal has raised a total of more than $540,000 over its three-year span. The first two years held at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre in Coxheath and last year at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre. Last year alone, the event attracted roughly 2,000 participants despite the weather.Article contentThe fund itself has provided support in the areas of travelling to specialist appointments, accommodations for medical-related travel, childcare during treatment, psycho-social support programming such as psychologist visits, medication support, respite care, comfort bags and more, according to the fundraiser’s website.
