(Jeff Stapleton/CBC)Three people are facing criminal charges after a motorcyclist died in a hit and run on the Trans-Canada Highway in Bras d’Or, N.S., this summer.In a news release Thursday, RCMP said they had laid charges against a 42-year-old Sydney Mines, N.S., man for impaired driving, failing to stop after an accident, and two breaches of probation conditions.Two women from North Sydney, N.S., who were passengers in the car are facing obstruction of justice charges after allegedly providing false statements after the crash in June, police said.RCMP previously said a car struck a 40-year-old motorcyclist from Bras d’Or, who suffered life-threatening injuries and died in hospital the next day. The driver of the car fled, but was found nearby on Brady Drive in Groves Point exhibiting signs of impairment, police said.Witnesses were credited with providing valuable information that led to the charges.”The detailed accounts from passing motorists — many of whom stopped immediately to aid the victim — along with the support of the victim’s family, were critical to this investigation,” said Const.
