(Aleksandr Finch/Shutterstock)Public health officials warn there are three new measles exposure sites in southern Manitoba, as the province confirms five new cases.People who attended Zion Church in Schanzenfeld on Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. should monitor for symptoms until Nov. 3, the province said in a media bulletin Friday.The province also announced two potential exposures in Winkler on Oct. 9. People who were at Garden Valley Collegiate from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. — including at a volleyball game — and Dairy Queen at 785 Main St. from 7-10 p.m. should monitor for symptoms until Oct. 31. Data on new measles cases are now released every Friday. There were 230 confirmed and 15 probable cases this year as of Oct. 11, 2025, the update said.15 hospitalizedThere have been 15 hospitalizations, including two intensive care unit admissions related to measles, the update said, with 87.3 per cent of the cases in people who had received no vaccine doses.Manitoba had only had 18 measles cases in the 20 years before January 2025, the update said.There have been 5,060 measles cases reported in Canada in 2025, the last federal update said. The country’s largest outbreak, in Ontario, was declared over last week.Two deaths have been recorded. Both were newborns who got the infection from their mothers during the final weeks of pregnancy. The most recent death was reported last month in Alberta, which has had the second-highest number of cases in the country.
