(Dave Chidley/CBC)North Dundas, Ont., has declared a state of emergency as crews battle a 40-hectare forest fire that broke out Sunday night.The township said Monday the fire is in the Alvin Runnalls Forest near Morewood, south of Russell. People are asked to avoid the area of county roads 3 and 7 to clear the way for emergency responders, and warned to be prepared to stay indoors if air quality worsens.As of 11:15 a.m. Monday there were no injuries, no buildings were considered at risk and there were no evacuation plans. The cause of the fire is unknown.The area just concluded an extremely dry summer, Monday’s rain notwithstanding. The township has placed restrictions on outdoor fires and the local conservation authority has been asking residents to conserve water since early August.The fire is about 45 kilometres southeast of downtown Ottawa.
