(Andrew Lee/CBC)The Vancouver Police Department says it has concluded its investigation into the death of an eight-year-old girl who fell from a high-rise balcony last month and determined criminality was not a factor. “The November 11 fall was the result of a tragic accident,” Sgt. Steve Addison said in a news release Thursday. “Vancouver Police extends its condolences to the child’s family, friends, and everyone impacted by this horrible tragedy.”Officers were called to a high-rise residential building near Nelson Street and Expo Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. PT on Nov. 11 after the child fell from a balcony. She was pronounced dead at the scene, despite life-saving efforts from first responders, police said at the time.Addison said no suspects were ever arrested.“Through all the information that we’ve obtained in this investigation, speaking with people, reviewing video, looking at the scene, looking at where she fell, other sources of evidence, we are absolutely confident that this was a tragic accident, it was not the result of a crime,” he said. The eight-year-old, Gandom Taheri, attended school in Squamish, where more than 150 people gathered last month to hold a funeral for her. Addison said the results of the investigation have been shared with her family. With files from Alanna Kelly, Courtney Dickson and Yasmine Ghania
