(CBC)The Fredericton Fire Department has evacuated part of a downtown street for a natural gas incident, according to a message posted to social media at 4:05 p.m. Thursday.The leak was described as being on Church Street between Churchill Row and Charlotte Street, and 20 homes in the immediate area have been evacuated.The department asked people to avoid the area, and for people nearby who have not been evacuated to turn off their air conditioners and air exchangers, and to shelter in place or leave the area. Church Street is closed at Churchill Row and George Street, and Charlotte Street is closed at George Street and Saint John Street. Justin McGuigan with the fire department said in an emailed statement that the information is still up to date as of 4:45 p.m., and that the department expects to have the situation under contol in the next one to two hours.
