The driver instead accelerated through the checkpoint, nearly striking the police officer.Article contentArticle contentArticle contentOfficers located and conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle as it arrived at the operator’s residence.Article contentThe driver exhibited clear signs of alcohol impairment. The woman was arrested and transported to the detachment where she provided breath samples that were two and a half times the legal limit.Article contentHer license was suspended, and vehicle was seized and impounded. She will appear in court at a later date to answer to criminal charges of flight from police, operation of a motor vehicle while impaired and operation of a motor vehicle while over 80 mg of alcohol.Article content“As we continue to see festive celebrations this holiday season, RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador will continue to conduct enhanced patrols and checkpoints across the province to remove impaired drivers from roadways, and to ensure that all motorists are driving safely,” the news release states.Article content“Slow down, buckle up and never operate a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
