Power customers were without electricity on Tuesday morning after a dump truck made contact with a transmission line on Fredericton’s north side.The outages included large swaths of Fredericton, stretching to Sheffield and Maugerville areas and parts of Oromocto, Beaver Dam, Fredericton Junction and Tracy, according to the utility’s website.As of 1 p.m., about 12,500 customers remained without power. The remaining outages show restoration times between 2 and 3 p.m., according to the N.B. Power website.In an email, N.B. Power spokesperson Elizabeth Fraser said crews were on-site where the dump truck made contact and were “ensuring the area is safe for the public.” Late Tuesday morning, parents were advised that some schools in the area would close at noon. The notice sent to families said buses would be loaded to send students home.The affected schools are:Leo Hayes High School.Gibson-Neill Memorial Elementary School.Park Street Elementary School.Nashwaaksis Middle School.Royal Road Elementary School.Devon Middle School.Cuffman Street Elementary School.
