Here’s what voters need to know before heading to the polls.The byelection was triggered by a vacancy left after the death of councillor Jason Schreyer in April.Seven candidates are running to fill Schreyer’s seat based on campaign promises that include repairing roads and infrastructure, improving public safety and restoring community programs.There are also two school trustee elections in other areas of the city on the same day. Winnipeg’s Elmwood-East Kildonan ward includes the neighbourhoods of Chalmers, East Elmwood and Kildonan Crossing. (CBC News Graphics)Voters living in Louis Riel School Division Ward 3 (southeast Winnipeg and part of the rural municipality of Ritchot) can choose from three school trustee candidates.There are nine candidates running in Pembina Trails School Division Ward 1 (southwest Winnipeg and part of the rural municipality of Headingley).Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.Residents can find out where to cast a ballot in the yellow box on the left side of their voters’ notice, checking on the City of Winnipeg website or by calling 311.Eligible voters need valid government-issued identification such as a driver’s licence or Manitoba health card.
