Photo by Gov NLArticle contentAccording to the NL Forest Fire Dashboard, there are currently four fires in the province: a wildfire in the Burnt Dam area of western NL is considered out-of-control and is spread over 131 hectares, while a second, smaller fire in the same area that is only 2.5 hectares is under control. Both fires began aroundArticle contentIn eastern NL, a 1,034-hectare fire in Pamehac Brook North, near Badger, which began burning June 17, is considered under control.Article contentA small fire of 0.7 hectares Bellman’s Pond, which began July 9, is being held.Article contentAs of Friday, July 11, there have been 151 active wildfires in the province spread over 4,058.3 hectares, including a fire that destroyed homes in Adam’s Cove in early May and one that forced the evacuation of Badger as it threatened the community in mid-June.Article contentNo burning, campfires allowedArticle contentPermits to burn are cancelled and campfires are not permitted under the ban.Article contentUse of gas, kerosene, alcohol, propane or charcoal-burning units is permitted, as long as the units are not used within 3.5 metres of any woods, brush or other flammable material.Article contentAll coals used during barbecuing, or as part of any other burning unit, must be extinguished before being safely discarded.Article contentOff-road vehicle operators should use a proper screening or baffling device to prevent sparks from escaping and carry a fire extinguisher with a minimum of 225 grams of ABC-class dry chemical when travelling in grassy or wooded areas.Article content
