Photo by Keith Gosse/The TelegramA home and garage were destroyed by fire in Paradise Saturday afternoon and one person was sent to hospital.A second home was significantly damaged as well.St. John’s Regional firefighters were called to the fire shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday and arrived to find the garage engulfed in fire and the house ablaze as well.Reports from the scene indicate four people were in the garage when it caught fire and they were able to escape but the fire quickly spread throughout the structure and then to the garage owner’s home and the neighbouring home on the other side.The homeowner of the first home, who was one of the people in the garage when the fire started, was sent to hospital as a precaution.A pickup in the driveway was also destroyed as were a number of vehicles and gas-powered machines.Smoke from the fire could be seen as far as downtown St. John’s and the incident attracted dozens of onlookers and motorists, snarling traffic in the area.More details will be provided as they become available.
