Her licence was suspended further, and the vehicle was seized and impounded.Article contentAbout 20 minutes later, officers observed a known suspended driver operating a vehicle on Prince Rupert Drive in Stephenville. The driver, a 37-year-old man who currently has charges before the court for impaired driving, showed signs of alcohol impairment and failed a roadside breath test. He was arrested for impaired driving and refused to provide further breath samples.Article contentArticle contentHe will appear in court at a later date to face charges of impaired driving, refusal to provide breath samples and driving while suspended. His licence was suspended further, and his vehicle was seized and impounded.Article contentAt about 1:20 p.m., officers observed a vehicle parked irregularly in a parking lot in Port au Port East. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 43-year-old Kippens man, showed signs of alcohol impairment and provided a roadside breath sample above the provincial limit, but below the criminal threshold for impaired operation. He was issued a driver’s licence suspension, and his vehicle was seized and impounded.Article contentTwo additional traffic stops were conducted nearby on the Main Road in Port Au Port Saturday afternoon. The drivers of those vehicles — a 39-year-old Port au Port man and a 56-year-old Point au Mal woman — each showed signs of alcohol impairment, and they both provided a breath samples above the provincial limit. Each driver was issued a license suspension and both vehicles were seized and impounded by police.Article contentThese patrols were part of Operation Impact, a Canada-wide traffic safety campaign targeting the main contributors to serious and fatal motor vehicle collisions. In addition to patrolling our streets and highways, RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador’s Traffic Services Unit also set up eight traffic checkpoints across the province, checking 425 vehicles over the long weekend.Article content
