(Alexander Quon/CBC)A former music teacher has been charged with sexually assaulting a student in the 1980s, Saskatoon police say.On Aug. 20, the Saskatoon Police Service sex crime unit charged former music teacher Raymond Eldon McHargue, 87, with committing acts of gross indecency, sexual interference with someone under 14 and sexual assault. He was reported to have assaulted at least one boy who was his student between the years of 1984 and 1988. McHargue moved to Saskatoon in 1977 and started teaching piano and organ lessons that year, both at a local music store and out of his home on Churchill Drive. He taught piano and organ lessons until 2020.Sexual assault allegations are not bound by the statute of limitations, meaning they can be investigated and considered for prosecution regardless of how long it’s been since the alleged crime took place. Investigators with the sex crime unit believe there might be more victims in the community, and are asking any potential victims to call the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300.McHargue is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon provincial court on Sept. 11.
