(SRC)Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is forecasting that a low pressure system will move through southern Saskatchewan early this week.A narrow band of freezing rain could develop by Tuesday morning between Kindersley and Estevan, while heavier snowfall, between 10 and 20 centimetres, is expected over much of southern Saskatchewan. The agency says the system is expected to form in southern Alberta on Monday night before drifting into Saskatchewan and western North Dakota on Tuesday.Natalie Hasell, a warning preparedness meteorologist with ECCC, said the weather will be felt across southern Saskatchewan and warned the forecast may be upgraded to a more intense system later on Monday.“We’ve got a little bit of everything that we could get with a winter system. So we’re expecting snow, we’re expecting strong winds, there’s a risk of freezing rain involved with all this,” she said.ECCC says winds will strengthen as the system moves, blowing snow across southern Saskatchewan. At the same time, warmer weather could produce freezing rain in the area.“We’ll see a widespread area of precipitation and stronger winds around this low pressure system,” Hasell said. “And because of the temperature ranges that we’re going to see with it, warm air is making its way right up to the low [system], so some areas will see rain, which could then freeze.” Hasell emphasized the importance of having an emergency plan if someone gets stuck in a vehicle with travelling.“Hopefully people have emergency kits in their cars. You should have one in your car and one in your home, so that in case you are stuck, you’re a little bit more comfortable waiting for things to get unstuck,” she said.ECCC says meteorologists are monitoring the situation and are likely to issue more weather warnings by Monday afternoon.
