(@calebu2/TMX, Kaitlyn Schropp/CBC)It’s that time of year when leaves begin to change, temperatures cool and the weird and wonderful scarecrows come out in Lumsden, Sask.The town of under 2,000 people, located 30 kilometres northwest of Regina, is hosting its annual scarecrow festival and street market this weekend. It’s the 10th anniversary.These days, the scarecrows range from your traditional straw men to quirky figures that are satirical, even political.A re-enactment of the viral “kiss cam” moment at a Coldplay concert is on display, with scarecrow replicas of a tech company CEO and the head of HR in an embrace.Another display appears to make a dig at the Saskatchewan government’s scaling back of sexual health education. In 2023, schools were forbidden from inviting third-party educators into their classroom for lessons on sexual health and parents were given the opportunity to opt their kids out of the human sexuality unit.Prizes are given out to homeowners and businesses for their creations.Scroll down to take a peek.One of the displays in Lumsden features a themed wedding scene.
