(Craig Paisley/CBC)Halifax police have shot a man who pointed a firearm at officers after being barricaded inside a home in the Fairmount area of Halifax since Wednesday evening.Police say they were called to the home on Arlington Avenue at about 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving a report of a barricaded person.The man made threats toward police throughout the night, police said in a news release on Thursday morning. Crisis negotiators tried to de-escalate the situation, and the emergency response team was sent to the scene.At about 7:10 a.m., the man pointed a firearm at police, and in response, police shot him, according to the news release.He was taken into custody at 8:35 a.m. and has been taken to the hospital with serious injuries.Police say a woman who was known to the man was also inside the house, and police were able to remove her at 8:30 a.m. Paramedics treated her for non-life-threatening injuries.An RCMP tactical vehicle arrives at the scene of a police operation in the Fairmount area of Halifax. (Craig Paisley/CBC)Officers will continue to be at the scene today as they continue their investigation.The incident has been reported to the Serious Incident Response Team, the organization that investigates all serious incidents that arise from police actions in Nova Scotia.Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Services Assistant Chief Jim Stymiest said fire crews were called to the scene on Thursday morning in case the occupant of the home set fire to the house.Police had asked the public to avoid the area of Arlington Avenue and Brook Street on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Power was temporarily cut to the area, affecting 575 customers.
