(Justin Tang/The Canadian Press)Modifications may be in order for Halloween costumes and plans because of a lot of rain forecast for the Ottawa area Thursday and Friday.Environment Canada said on social media Wednesday afternoon that cities such as Ottawa, Gatineau and Kingston could see 50 to 75 millimetres of rain over those 48 hours.The Cornwall area could see more than 75 millimetres.Areas further west could see less rain: around 40 millimetres for Prince Edward County, for example, and more like 30 millimetres around Pembroke.Environment Canada is forecasting a wet Oct. 30 and 31. (Environment Canada/X)In general, but especially when visibility and stopping distance may be affected by rain, Ottawa police recommend making sure trick-or-treaters can be seen by using reflective tape or flashlights and only crossing at intersections.Drivers should slow down and stay alert for anyone crossing between intersections or parked vehicles.Ottawa is poised to have its wettest month of a dry year, with 93.5 millimetres of rain at its international airport so far this month. The airport’s weather station is currently 226 millimetres, or 27 per cent, below its average precipitation, conditions that have led to a severe drought slamming farmers and drying out streams and wells.
