Article contentHumby would give them the marijuana or they’d bring their own. Sometimes, he said, Humby would give them cigarettes or money, asking for nothing in return at first. Article contentThe complainant said that after a few weeks, Humby told him he didn’t want his friend hanging around so much, since the other guy was always looking for weed. Humby offered to give the complainant a ride when he needed to go somewhere, so he would show up alone.  Article contentAfter another month, Humby began asking him questions about his sexuality and whether he would do specific sexual acts. Article content“I found it weird,” the complainant testified. “I told him I wasn’t into all that.” Article contentAbuse lasted years, complainant testifiesArticle contentHe told the court he was at Humby’s east end St. John’s home one day when Humby showed him two guns: a handgun and a rifle. Article contentArticle contentHe said Humby pressured him for a sexual act before threatening him with the handgun. Article contentArticle content“That’s when he raped me,” the man told the court. Article contentHe said Humby had held the gun in his hand nearly the entire duration of the assault.Article content“I was in fear for my life,” he testified.Article contentThe complainant said Humby sexually assaulted him on several other occasions, including an incident when he was 16, when Humby restrained him to a bed before raping him several times.Article content“Did you tell anyone?” prosecutor Deidre Badcock asked.  Article content“I did mention it to child services one time,” the complainant replied. Article contentHe said a social worker told him she was going to get police involved, but “nothing came of it.” Article contentThe complainant said the abuse went on for at least two years. Article contentAfter that, Humby offered him cash to recruit others.Article content“He wanted me to try and get other people to do sexual acts with him,” the man testified.
