Bold, generational and Canada strong—that’s how Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government presented Budget 2025. The 493-page document, unveiled Tuesday, detailed $140 billion in new funding over five years. That includes $2.3 billion earmarked for clean water, and $1 billion for Arctic transportation infrastructure. But it also comes with cuts and the sunsetting of critical programs. Unlike in previous years, Budget 2025 doesn’t have a chapter dedicated to Indigenous Peoples. Karyn Pugliese, APTN’s online Ottawa correspondent and host of our political show Nation to Nation, spent the week scrutinizing the budget and interviewing top political analysts. She joins me on InFocus to read between the lines and discuss how it will impact Indigenous peoples. The budget also promised a climate strategy to deal with the warming planet and what Canada was going to do to counter it.
