Toews signed a one-year contract with the Jets over the off-season, after missing more than two seasons while suffering from symptoms of long COVID and chronic inflammatory response syndrome.The born-and-raised Winnipegger spent his first 15 pro seasons in Chicago, where he captained the the Original Six franchise to three Stanley Cups.Toews was on the ice for a total of 18 minutes and 36 seconds in Tuesday’s pre-season game. Although he failed to register a goal or an assist, he held his own in the faceoff circle, winning 11 of 20 draws.Ty Emberson scored the winner halfway through the third period and Noah Philip chipped in with two assists for the visiting Oilers.Quinn Hutson and Isaac Howard, on the power play, also scored for the Oilers, who took a 2-1 lead into the third period.The Jets outshot the visitors 23-17.Colin Miller and Colby Barlow scored for the Jets, and Brad Lambert had two assists.The Oilers went 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Jets were 0-for-2.With files from The Canadian Press
