Kimmirut shooting results in charges against 21-year-old

Published 12:58 pm Friday, November 28, 2025 Multiple gun shots fired in Kimmirut at 1:45 a.m. on Nov. 22 caused no injuries, but one man faces charges in relation to the incident. A little after 2 a.m. that morning, police placed one man under arrest. The incident occurred in the 90s block of the community, the same area where a stabbing happened just two days prior. Joanasie Qimirqpik, 21, was charged with recklessly discharging a firearm and possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence. Qimirqpik’s first court appearance was on Nov. 24 and he has since been released. His next court appearance is set for Jan. 20.
