Published 12:10 pm Tuesday, December 9, 2025 By William Koblensky Varela, Local Journalism Initiative Northern News Services Nunavut Commissioner Eva Qamaniq Aariak presided over the annual Christmas lighting ceremony at the Nunavut Legislative Assembly in Iqaluit on Dec. 4. The occasion was made more festive by a sudden snow squall. In attendance was Santa Claus, Premier John Main, the Aqsarniit Middle School Choir, and about 50 families, undeterred by the blustery weather. The school choir sang songs in Inuktitut and English prior to the building being lit up.
